How Much Room Is Required to Drill for Well Installation in Hillsborough County, FL?

April 18, 2019 Published by Leave your thoughts

These days, more and more people are choosing to drill wells for their homes. When planning for your well installation in Hillsborough County, FL, you may have many questions about the installation process, including the permits required, how to choose the location for your well, whether there’s enough water in your area and how much room is required to drill the well. Keep reading to find answers to some of these common well installation questions.

Room required for well drilling

When it comes to installing your well, one of the most frequent questions we’re asked is how much room is required to drill the well itself. Generally, the space required to drill the well is about the size of a truck 30 feet long and 9 feet wide. The trailer hitch on such a truck would be where the well would be drilled. However, during the drilling process, you might need even more room on both sides of the rig. Advanced Pump & Well Service does have several sizes of rigs to accommodate for different spaces in order to best serve our clients.

Additionally, part of the well drilling process will involve removing cuttings from the borehole drilled during the well construction. These cuttings are dealt with by digging two pits beside the drilling rig. The size of the pits will vary, but they are usually around 3 feet wide and 6 feet long, and only about 4 feet deep. Then, drilling fluid will be circulated through the pits so the cuttings will settle. Afterwards, the drilling fluid can be reused. Don’t worry, the pits will be covered after the drilling is complete! If you’re concerned about the space available on your land, you can call Advanced Pump & Well Service to set up an appointment for one of our experts to come take a look at your space.

Time required for the drilling process

If you’re concerned about space, you shouldn’t worry about having to sacrifice all that space for long. The drilling of the well generally shouldn’t take longer than three days to a week. However, the drilling time may be affected by a number of factors, such as the time it takes to set up, how difficult your place is for the rigs to access, the difficulty of drilling in your land and, of course, the weather. It’s difficult to determine exactly how much time drilling will take until our experts are beginning to break ground.
